More female lives have been lost through violence against women from sex selective abortions, female infanticides, suicide, egregious maternal mortality, and other linked sex causes than all of the lives that were lost in the wars and civil strife of the 20th century. Source: "Sex and World Peace"
According to the World Health Organization, since 1962, in every single country of the world there are more boys born than girls. According to a data collected in 2017, women make up about 49.6% of the population.
For most countries (including the United States) there are around 105 boys born per 100 girls. The world is currently at a disequilibrium because the population has more men than women.
The resulting gender imbalance also has a damaging effect on societies. Instances of increased sexual violence and trafficking have already been linked to the phenomenon.
Approximately 15 million adolescent girls (aged 15 to 19) worldwide have experienced forced sex (forced sexual intercourse or other sexual acts) at some point in their life.
Women are 51% of the population, but make up 19% of Congress and only a quarter of state legislatures. At the current rate of change since 1960, women will not achieve equal representation in Congress until 2117.
